Carnation Update - January 28th

Where did all of the carnations go??? That is the question of the day, week and month!

This year carnations are in high demand as they are by far the less expensive of the two most popular flowers for Valentine's Day (the most popular being roses & carnations). Carnations are selling out quickly. Already our farms (and for the most part the entire floral industry) has sold out of standard grade carnations and fancy grade carnations… leaving only the select grade carnations which, too, are going quickly. With the way sales have been going, it is most likely that even the select grade carnations will sell out in the next 7 to 10 days if not sooner. Word to the wise - if you need carnations, now is the time to order them!

Roses are still readily available in a wide range of colors though, if history repeats itself, those too will start to sell quickly once the carnations are gone.

Judging by what we have seen thus far with Valentine's Day, it looks like 2014 will be another year of budget-conscious businesses, schools, clubs and organizations making the most of their fundraisers by purchasing cost-effective flowers - the most affordable being bulk carnations! If you have ordered flowers for Valentine's Day and plan to have another fundraiser at Mother's Day, be sure to place your order early to lock in the low prices and ensure availability. Most likely we will see carnations sell out again at Mother's Day - so plan ahead and place your order early with The Grower's Box!

As a reminder, our Valentine's Day pre-book deadline is Friday, January 31st. Please be advised that after Friday, prices may go up and availability may be limited on some types of flowers.
