Blog Post From Tawra’s Tightwad Tips
In our efforts to stay well plugged in to the world of wedding flowers, we do a little blog reading ourselves! We came across a blog called Tawra’s Tightwad Tips. This blog had WONDERFUL tips for pinching pennies along with a little bit of everything else!
The following is an excerpt from Tawra’s Tightwad Tips from September 3rd titled ‘Frugal Wedding’:
I wanted to write in to give your readers some wedding ideas. We also were stuck to a pretty tight budget but wanted to invite all members of our very large family (by large I mean big: both my parents have 6 siblings on both sides!!). We knew we couldn’t cut the guest list down past 200, so we had to make adjustments elsewhere. Here’s a few of my tips:
1) We did ‘finger-food’ as people describe it. But what we did was stations. We picked 4 cuisines we really liked (Mexican, Greek, American, etc) and we had a local catering company make each dish for pennies on the dollar. We created centerpieces like country flags to make each station look nice. EVERYONE loved the idea.
2) Many beautiful white dresses are now coming in the form of prom dresses. They are just as amazing as some of the $99 ones you can find at David’s Bridal, but after homecoming or prom season, they can be very cheap (I saw some the other day for $30)! They are up to the minute in style and brand new. Its worth checking into!
3) Flowers. The quotes I received at first shocked me. Who would in their right mind pay this much for something grown in nature??? I happened to do some internet digging and found that there are companies that sell wholesale bunches of flowers, delivered any day you choose to your door ready to be put in vases. I used a company called The Grower’s Box and we paid a local lady to arrange them into bouquets and vases and people thought we had spent thousands on them!
