The Christmas Rose has for many, many years been a favorite plant in Europe as its blooms are said to welcome the start of the winter holiday season. This beautiful and hardy evergreen plant creates beautiful white flowers which emerge reliably in November and December and last well into the New Year.
While the Christmas Rose is best known for its white blooms that emerge during the holidays, one should also be aware that this beautiful flower is actually an EXTREMELY hardy outdoor evergreen perennial as well! The Christmas Rose can easily make the transition between indoor holiday decoration to outdoor flower bed! As a perennial, the Christmas Rose will only get bigger and better each year if cared for properly.

General Care Instructions:
Light Exposure:
The Christmas Rose likes bright and indirect light. A location that offers morning sun or filtered light for the better part of the day is ideal for providing the correct amount of light without drying out the plant too quickly.
Water & Fertilizer:
Once established, the Christmas Rose will tolerate being somewhat dry. Good drainage is important. Keep moist in the winter by watering when needed. Some misting in the summer can help to keep the plant cool. A well balanced liquid fertilizer can be applied every 6 weeks or so during the growing season. If a few shoots get dry, remove them to encourage fresh new growth.
Dividing:
The Christmas Rose will continue to grow wide in the landscape and can be dug up every 3-4 years and divided... or simply left to grow and expand in your flower beds. If grown in a container, plant in a slightly larger pot for the following winter bloom season and keep the soil as cool as possible. Every 2-3 years, remove the plant from the pot, cut away 1/3 of the existing root ball, and replant with fresh soil.
The Off-Season:
The Christmas Rose will put on a show for you during the winter season. As the winter season comes to an end, the Christmas Rose will enter its slow period. Water the plant when necessary so that it does not dry out. After blooming, new leaves are produced and the plant increases in size. In states where there is heavy snowfall, the Christmas Rose can tolerate temperatures as low as 10 degrees below zero if planted in the ground.
